Angela to perform in The Armando Show

Angela is performing at the iO West again this Saturday, April 14th, in The Armando Show.

The Armando Show is a 90-minute long improvised comedy show inspired by an audience suggestion, which the celebrity hosts interpret through a personal and truthful improvised monologue. Inspired by that monologue, a cast composed of veteran Chicago and Los Angeles alumni perform scenes that, in turn, inspire a response from Armando. This propels hilarious interchanges between Armando’s monologues and the company’s scenes.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, check it out! It’s one of my favorite improv shows at the iO.

iO West’s 9th Annual Los Angeles Improv Comedy Festival

If you’re in the Los Angeles area on June 9th, come by the iO West to see Angela and Kate Flannery perform in The Armando Show, part of their 9th Annual comedy festival!

The Armando Show begins with one suggestion from the audience, which is then interpreted by that night’s Armando (frequently a celebrity guest) through a personal and truthful improvised monologue. Inspired by that monologue, a cast composed of veteran Chicago and Los Angeles alumni perform scenes which, in turn, inspire a response from Armando. This propels hilarious interchanges between Armando’s monologues and the company’s scenes.

Angela in The Armando Show

Last Thursday I saw Angela host The Armando Show at the iO West. If you’ve never seen The Armando Show, the Armando (in this case, Angela) will start off by asking the audience for a word suggestion. Then the celebrity host will do an improvised monologue and from there, the cast of the show will perform scenes inspired by the Armando’s response.

This time there were two word suggestions: pants and deodorant.

Angela told the audience she liked their style and joked that right before leaving the house, Isabel told her she only wanted to wear pink pants. Everyone laughed and then Angela began to talk about how much her life has changed since she had Isabel. Before, she felt as if she was just coasting through life. Now everything is a big deal, like Isabel’s new sunglasses. Isabel is devastated when she loses her sunglasses! Angela will try to comfort Isabel by assuring her that you can find sunglasses anywhere. She can even take her to Walgreens and there will be a display that turns and is full of sunglasses but as soon as Angela is done explaining, Isabel will just go back to crying for her sunglasses.

There was also a funny story about how lately Angela has developed some weird quirks when flying, even though she has been flying her whole life. She remembers that as kid she asked her mom how a plane is able to stay up and her mom responded with a folksy answer, “all you need to do is give the plane a little pat.” So now Angela needs to pat the plane every time she flies! :)

As always, it was a fun show full of hilarious scenes inspired by Angela’s stories. From skits on how to reverse a pregnancy to sandwich wizards, the show was great! My friend said she was sore the next day from laughing!

After the show, we were able to see Angela and chat for a few minutes.

Thanks Angela for always being so sweet! Until next year? ;)

My report of The Armando Show

UPDATE I added pictures from the show. Thanks to Omar Adam for letting me use them!

I saw Angela perform at The Armando Show on Wednesday. The show, as always, was great and very funny.

I had a chance to see Angela before the show. We bumped into each other outside as I was walking in and she was getting out of her car. She was a little sick and said she didn’t know how the night was going to go. She also told me that she appreciated the work I do on this site and that her mom loves it! I love knowing that her mom reads the site. Hi, Bertie!

As we walked in, Angela got carded. That was funny! Although, I’m not surprised because she looked great!

The show started at 8 PM. If you’ve never seen The Armando Show, the Armando (in this case, Angela) will start off by asking the audience for a suggestion. Then the celebrity host will do an improvised monologue and from there, the cast of the show will perform scenes inspired by the Armando’s response.

Oscar Nuñez was part of the cast that night! The first suggestion came from his girlfriend, Ursula. Her suggestion was “baby” and, well, you can imagine Angela had many baby stories to tell.

Angela also went on to talk about how recently, at various events, she’s been very “cool” around celebrities. At an event with Mindy Kaling, Meryl Streep walked up to them while they were talking to her son. Angela said that instead of saying hello to Meryl, she casually nodded and turned her attention back to Mindy!

The show took off from there and the scenes performed by the cast were great. One of Angela’s characters was Lupita, who I’m still trying to figure out if she spoke Spanish or English better ;)

After the show, we hung out for a while before heading home. Angela was schmoozing in the green room so I didn’t get a chance to talk to her afterwards.

I had a fun time and my friend loved it, too. She even went back last night to see Sarah Silverman as the Armando!

Looking forward to next year’s festival!
